WHY GO TO EUROPE TO SKI ?
|
| For the challenge, for the sightseeing and for the food.
The Alps are magical, craggy creatures to be topped
and tamed. Sophisticated ski lift systems allow skiers
to literally glide from one country to another. One
ski pass, 464
Ski- lifts and 1180 kilometers of ski runs in Cortina,
Les 3 Valless with their five resorts is the biggest
ski area in the world, Chamonix located in the
base of Mont-Blanc, highest mountain in Europe.
You think Vail is picturesque? Wait until you see Zermatt
- Switzerland, St.Anton - Austria, or Cortina D'Ampezzo
and Dolomites in Italy. These historic hamlets and
others were established hundreds of years ago.
Midday in St.Anton: Hundreds of skiers slide
down Valluga Mountain, while you standing at
9,220 feet, the world is a cathedral and the snow -
packed peaks its parishioners. Music is the sound of
the wind scuffing your ears. You want to stay, to give
thanks for such a glorious view, but the devil pulls
you downhill.
And, yes, you do go to Europe for the cuisine. From the
piquant aromas that waft from mountaintop grills to the
last golden crumb of strudel. |
|
AUSTRIA, an ideal introduction to European skiing
with friendly natives who all seem to speak English.
FRANCE, the skiing is great, and a commitment
to growth keeps resorts well equipped with all the bells
and whistles.
ITALY, if you don't take life or skiing too
seriously, this is the place to be. Never early to bed,
and certainly not early to rise. Great snow and even
better vistas.
SWITZERLAND, outstanding skiing in a laid-back
setting. Terrific destination if there are not to serious
skiers in the group.
